Bacterial miscarriage vaginosis presents a higher risk and can be accompanied with vaginal discharge; other symptoms may be vaginal dysplasia. BV, according to a British study, does not affect conception, but is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage in the first trimester in women undergoing in vitro fertilization. Doctors are not clear how this condition causes miscarriages but speculate that it’s due to pre-existing endometritis. Up to 16% of pregnant women have BV and have increased risk for complications in the US.
