If you don't know when to get a pap smear, the best time is 10-14 days after the period, as at that time human papilloma virus, vaginitis, and other disorders are obvious and nothing alters the result of the test. Women suffering from HPV and HIV are advised to have frequent tests, as they are at higher risk for developing cervical cancer. Midcycle is considered the best time for having the procedure. Menstruating women as well as those close to menses should not have Papanicolaou test.
