A Typical Pap Smear

A typical pap smear is used to determine abnormal cells inthe genital area, but it cannot make a diagnosis on vaginitis, vaginosis, cervical dysplasia and other disorders. Nearly all of cervical cancer cases are linked to HPV, cytology screening becomes crucial for early treatment and elimination. Cervical cells can become impaired causing changes in cellular appearance. When the immune system is at a low point due to system stressors, the ability to suppress invasive infections is inhibited. A typical pap smear is used to determine abnormal cells inthe genital area, but it cannot make a diagnosis on vaginitis, vaginosis, cervical dysplasia and other disorders.

When the deviation is slight, the classification is considered as a level of least risk for cervical cancer. When a cytology finding is ascertained to have cells that deviate from the usual types found on the outermost epithelial lining of the cervix, it is considered abnormal.
