Problems of hpv cervix and disorders in the vulvar area cannot be diagnosed with a pap smear, as it is a screening test. It usually takes many years for cancer of the cervix to develop. Without treatment severely dysplastic cells penetrate deeper layers of the cervix and spread to other organs, causing invasive cervical cancer. Cancer is unlikely to progress in women who donít smoke or have other cervical cancer risk factors. It induces the growth of abnormal cells that can become malignant. This sexually transmitted disease is the main cause of cervical cancer. In many women, infection with certain types of Human papilloma virus is the first step in the progression from a normal cervix to cervical cancer.
