The active virus may travel to the skin causing lesions that heal usually within 6-8 days. The virus affects nerve root cells and remains dormant there becoming active from time to time. HSV-1 and HSV-2 are transmitted very easily and cannot be removed from the organism. Herpes incubation can take several days or weeks; genital herpes or condyloma may appear at once.
