HSV is more commonly transmitted when there are no visible symptoms or lesions. Within a population of 45 million adolescents and adults, about one out of five become infected. A sexually transmitted disease caused generally by HSV-2 (although HSV-1 can be found at the sexual reproductive organ site), which can result in varied symptoms from redness and irritation to painful lesions.
