What Do Genital Warts Look Like

Some HPV genital infections are asymptomatic, but others impair cells causing abnormal cell changes such as dysplasia, growths, or lesions. Fluctuating in looks, they can either flat or raspberry or cauliflower in appearance. Initially they may be like tiny reddish-pink pinheads then expand up to four inches in diameter causing discomfort. They grow in the mucous areas of the genitalia-- external pubic areas and on vaginal and cervical exterior membranes in women and, in men, the urethra and penile shaft. These papillomas may then spread to the areas surrounding the anus.
