Colposcopic freezing wart therapy (cryotherapy) is an option to colposcopy attended LEEP procedure. Cryosurgery is the application of liquid nitrogen to the growth and, since it is very cold, it “ices” the afflicted area killing the effected cells. It leaves the underlying tissue significantly undamaged and, thus, the lesion heals without significant damage. This treatment can be painful since it can result in blisters that eventually crust over and falls off, but it has the advantage of a faster removal time. However, the belief that the growth immediately freezes off is a misconception. Applications generally take 3-5 times over a period of weeks.
