Genital wart treatments can include topical agents for a vaginal wart or a penile wart. As there are different strains of the virus the high-risk types may cause abnormal pap smears and cancer of the cervix, anus, and penis. The low risk types cause mild Pap smear abnormalities and lesions. The lesions appear alone or in multiple growths or bumps, sometimes forming a cauliflower shape. Genital wart treatments can include topical agents for a vaginal wart or a penile wart.

There are some ways of protecting yourself from the virus. For example, for women various plastic membranes are available, which may be effective at reducing risk of transmission of most STD’s, not only HPV.
