Cervix Biopsy

Cervix biopsy is preferred before treating abnormal tissue with cryotherapy, and if vulvar vestibulitis is present it should be monitored. It is a surgical procedure (called also cervical conozation) for detecting and treating problems in the cervical area. It is usualy done if a Pap smear test and a colposcopy exam show abnormal cells. During the procedure the abnormal tissue is removed and examined. Cervix biopsy is preferred before treating abnormal tissue with cryotherapy, and if vulvar vestibulitis is present it should be monitored.

The operation is done with anesthesia. The doctor puts a speculum into the vagina and cuts a piece of the tissue with a knife or with a laser. Possible complications are: incomplete removal of abnormal tissue, severe bleeding, infection, cervical scarring. Cervix biopsy is preferred before treating abnormal tissue with cryotherapy, and if vulvar vestibulitis is present it should be monitored.
