Abnormal Pap Smear Result

An abnormal pap smear result may be from the presence of lichen sclerosis or verruca or HPV. This test detects successfully various kinds of infections, ASCUS, AGUS, cervical dysplasia, HPV and cervical cancer. It is done at the time of pelvic examination. It is also useful as follow-ups after treatment to help monitor the success of therapy. An abnormal pap smear result may be from the presence of lichen sclerosis or verruca or HPV.

Regular checkups are recommended for every woman that is sexually active. Women at higher risk should get more frequent screening. They are: smokers, with early onset of sexual life and multiple sexual partners, with a history of STD, HPV and prenatal exposure to DES.
