With a pap test result ascus, further testing will usually detect the presence of human papillomavirus that causes the vaginal wart. The terms stand for Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance. The changes caused by abnormal cells are located within the top layer of the cervix, not causing cancer. If left untreated for a long time, this condition can lead to cancer of the cervix.
