Getting regular papsmeer tests will give an early diagnosis of the cervical dysplasia causing virus, HPV, which also causes verruca, and common warts. The American Cancer Society recommends that women have this test yearly beginning when they become sexually active. Some women may need more frequent screenings if they are at high risk for abnormal changes and cervical cancer. Becoming sexually active before 18 and having multiple partners; if your mother took DES during pregnancy, if your relative has or had cancer of the cervix. Having a sexual partner who has or had cancer of the penis may also be dangerous.
