With abnormal results on a pap smear, recommendation for repeat tests will usually factor in such conditions as miscarriage and lichen sclerosis. During this procedure some cells are removed from the cervix by brushing or scraping and are specially prepared for microscopic examination. The test is interpreted by cytotechnoligists and pathologists. This procedure determines the abnormalities at the earliest stage.
