Softening Cervix

Hormones play an important role in cervical softening, cervix inability to respond to hormonal changes lead to miscarriage or infertility. Often from about 10 weeks of pregnancy, the cervical area feels softer, more like touching your lips rather than touching the tip of your nose. During pregnancy the organism produces relaxin - a protein hormone that makes vagina and cervical canal softer. Relaxin enables the cervical dilation, rapid and safe delivery of the fetuses and normal lactational performance and plays an important role in preparing the reproductive tract for delivery. The clinical potention of Relaxin as an agent useful in labor is now being examined in rats and pigs.
