Small Cervix

Cervical incompetence can occur from a small cervix, cervical cancer, or or surgical procedures such as a cone biopsy. Cervical canal about 1.5-2 inches long connects the uterus to the vagina and keeps the uterus closed. The cervical incompetence occurs when the canal is short, and dilation goes without contraction in mid-pregnancy. The canal may be shortened when pressure is put on the uterus. Cervical incompetence can occur from a small cervix, cervical cancer, or or surgical procedures such as a cone biopsy.
