During a hysterectomy, cervix and uterus are removed under colposcopy assisted surgery to ensure that the HPV is eliminated. It is a big and complex procedure for making sure that all the cancer has gone. During the operation the womb, tissues holding the womb, the top of the vagina, and all the lymph nodes around the womb will be removed. The patient will be in hospital for about a week and recovering at home for at least a month. If the patient is past the menopause, the ovaries will be taken out as well.
