Dilation Of The Cervix

Dilation of the cervix may be necessary during a colposcopy and cone biopsy procedure. "D&C" is conducted when a Pap smear test doesn't clearly indicate whether abnormalities are caused by problem in the vagina or in the endometrium. The physitian enlarges the neck of the uterus and scrapes the inside of the uterus to remove a small sample for furhter analysis. Dilation of the cervix may be necessary during a colposcopy and cone biopsy procedure.

The procedure is performed in the office with or without anesthesia. It's quick and easy. Bleeding or perforation of the uterus happen only in rare cases.
