Cervix Thinning

A cervix thinning improperly during pregnancy is a concern, thus, treatment for an ASCUS Pap smear must be considered. The opening to the womb, may begin dilating or growing thin over the last month of pregnancy. Some women go into labor already dilated a few centimeters or others have not dilated at all. Some pregnancies may have problems with the cervix dilating preterm (before 37 weeks). Preterm or early labor may also cause early cervical dilation or effacement. Any contractions leading to cervical change before 37 weeks of gestation is preterm labor. If left untreated, cervical weakness can result in repeated pregnancy losses or premature delivery.
