A healthy condition of the cervix during pregnancy is important in order to prevent miscarriage or other infertility complications. The condition occurs when the fertilized egg implants in tissue outside the uterus and the fetus begins to develop there. This may be caused by obstructions or slow passage of a fertilized egg through the Fallopian tube to the uterus, which are the results of previous tubal infection.
