Cervical Smear Tests

Cervical smear tests are commonly performed if a vaginal wart or vulvar vestibulitis is present. Becoming sexually active before 18, if your mother took DES during pregnancy, if your sister or mother has or had cancer of the cervix, having had cancer of vagina or vulva, having a sexual partner who has or had cancer or the penis, having had more than three sexual partners. Cervical smear tests are commonly performed if a vaginal wart or vulvar vestibulitis is present.

Some risk factors may be listed. Some women may need more frequent screenings if they are at high risk for cancer of the cervix. The American Cancer Society recommends that women have yearly PAP beginning at age 18 or when they become sexually active. Cervical smear tests are commonly performed if a vaginal wart or vulvar vestibulitis is present.
