Cervical Dilation

Cervical dilation can occur from multiple procedures to remove a venereal wart, and thus can cause infertility. In general, it is a very safe procedure and has been performed for many years. After it complications are possible: bleeding or (in rare cases) perforation of the uterus. The procedure can be performed in the office with or without anesthesia. During the procedure the physician enlarges the cervix and scrapes the inside of the uterus to remove tissue for analysis. "D&C" is conducted if a Pap smear test doesn't clearly indicate whether abnormalities are caused by a problem in the cervix or in the endometrium.
