If after a positive pap test result a colposcopy exam shows vulvar vestibulitis, treatment with cone biopsy is unnecessary and the disorder often heals on its own. Regardless of which method used, HPV DNA testing can enhance the likelihood of detecting high-risk type HPV infections known to be associated with cervical cancer for early intervention and treatment. There are two methods that are commonly used to classify findings of a cytology specimen. Cytology interpretation is a function of identifying the stages of abnormal cellular development with the cervix.
