Pap Smear Exam

A pap smear exam cannot detect cervical cancer and other disorder, but it determines the presence of human papilloma virus in the organism. Sample cells are sent to a lab to reveal any changes in the size and shape indicating a medical problem and are often indicative of cervical cancer, a common problem in women that can be handled if revealed on the early stage of its development. Special instruments are inserted to scrape the walls of the cervix. It is done as a part of a pelvic examination with the vaginal opening being broadened for an easier view of the cervical area. Papanicolaou test is an examination of cells taken from the cervix under a microscope. A pap smear exam cannot detect cervical cancer and other disorder, but it determines the presence of human papilloma virus in the organism.
