Culposcopy

Culposcopy

With culposcopy it is possible to detect cervical cancer and other disorders; colposcopy is a reliable diagnostic tool. This examination is performed usually after repeated abnormal Pap smear tests to determine the nature and location of the problem. If the abnormal area has not extended beyond the cervix, it can be treated during the same visit by biopsy or LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision). With culposcopy it is possible to detect cervical cancer and other disorders; colposcopy is a reliable diagnostic tool.

If there are abnormal cells on the cervix, the doctor will order a biopsy. In this test, the doctor looks at the surface of the cervix through a colposcope. The exam is not painful and has no side effects; it can be done even if the patient is pregnant. With culposcopy it is possible to detect cervical cancer and other disorders; colposcopy is a reliable diagnostic tool.
