HPV can often cause cervical dysplasia, but there are often no symptoms, just abnormal vaginal discharge and discomfort; cryotherapy and LEEP are typical methods for curing this condition. Women at risk should have more frequent checks. They are: smokers, those that have a history of STDs and multiple sexual partners or have been exposured to DES. To detect CIN on early stages every woman who is sexually active should be examined by Pap smear tests annually. There is no cure for the virus itself. There are about 90 types of this virus and some of them lead to cancer and others are harmless. Current studies strongly implicate the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), as at least a cofactor in the development of CIN and cervical cancer.
