An atypical cell pap smear is often a result of HPV; some disorders if not treated in time can lead to severe problems, such as miscarriage. Then an appropriate treatment plan can be implemented. S/he must assess disease exposure, physiological changes, or other factors that can result in an odd cytology. If the cells are mildly unusual in appearance, a physician must consider the sensitivity of the test procedure against the potential impact on the patient.
