Incompetant Cervix

When diagnosed with an incompetant cervix, certain surgical procedures may be the cause, such as the LEEP procedure, or possibly infections including vaginitis. Cervical canal connects the uterus to the vagina and keeps the uterus closed. In the condition of cervical incompetence the dilation goes without contraction in mid-pregnancy, which is dangerous for the fetus. The cervical canal may be shortened when pressure is put on the uterus. When diagnosed with an incompetant cervix, certain surgical procedures may be the cause, such as the LEEP procedure, or possibly infections including vaginitis.

The symptoms of such disorder are: pelvic heaviness and lots of discharge. Weakening from the previous childbirth, surgery, or late pregnancy termination may cause it, but many times a cause cannot be found. The condition may lead to miscarriage at 18-24 weeks.
