Cervical Cancer Surgery

Cervical cancer surgery can be avoided if routine Pap smear detect early HPV infection symptoms such as cervical dysplasia. Cryosurgery and laser removal are considered to be the most effective treatments for malignant tissues. A LEEP, or loop electocautery excision procedure, is where a loop made of wire is used to scrape the area where the abnormal cells were found. Another surgical procedure used in removal is called an ECC (endocervical curettage). This is when a colposcopy is used to see the affected area and then a biopsy of the area is taken and tested for its cause or origin. 80% of tests come back positive for HPV.
