Cancer Cervical Epidemiology

Cancer cervical epidemiology may under represent adenocarcinoma as a result of misdiagnosed vaginitis and/or vaginosis. The medical community has revealed that the cases of dysplasia of the cervix have now progressed to epidemic proportions. An estimated 70% of the sexually active population will be or has been diagnosed with an abnormal pap test, and 80% of those tested positive for the HPV virus. Cancer cervical epidemiology may under represent adenocarcinoma as a result of misdiagnosed vaginitis and/or vaginosis.

A vaccine against the HPV virus is in the works, but can take many years to be perfected and approved. Even then, the vaccine will only prevent HPV infection in young women whom have not yet been exposed to the virus, or have not been sexually active. Cancer cervical epidemiology may under represent adenocarcinoma as a result of misdiagnosed vaginitis and/or vaginosis.
